The ladies of Herne Bay were in action over the weekend in the Kent League. Ladies 2 played Next Generation, Dartford in division 5 at home and won comfortably 4-0. Their 1st pair was Christine Hanson/Debbie Holden and they won 7-6, 6-1 & 6-3, 6-1, while their 2nd pair, Sarah Pout/Caroline Mitchell also won easily 6-3, 6-1 & 6-3, 6-2. The team have now won 2 matches and lost 1 with 2 left to play. In division 6 the ladies 3rd team also won, this time by 3 rubbers 1. They played Bromley Cricket club 4th team at home. Denise Parrett/Val Bell won both their rubbers in straight sets and Christina Bell/Diana High won one rubber in 3 sets. It was the team’s first win of the season. In the midweek league Herne Bay’s mixed veterans team travelled to Broadstairs and beat them 3-1. Martin Beckley was a late replacement for Keith Clark who was still recovering from a leg injury he sustained at the Super Vets finals and he and partner Anne Gibbs won both their rubbers without dropping a set. Brian Cooper/Sarah Pout were the 2nd pair and they beat the opposition’s second pair easily and lost in 2 close sets to their first pair.
