3rd Mar. 14

It was another good weekend for Herne Bay tennis club for both tennis results in the Kent League and the weather. Mixed 1’s last match at home in division 2 against Bromley LTC 2 was conceded by the opposition when they couldn’t find 2 fit men to travel down to Herne Bay. The team finish the season in second place in the division having lost one match by just 3 games. The mixed 2nd team played their 3rd match in division 4 away to Beckenham’s 3rd team and won very easily 4-0. Graham Miles/Debbie Holden won both their rubbers dropping just 5 games and the Bay’s second pair, Jerry Loader/Sue Toye, won their 1st rubber and then struggled against the Beckenham 1st pair dropping the 1st set but came back strongly to take the second set and the match tie-break. The team have one match left to play and have won 2 matches and lost 1. The mixed 4th team have also finished all their matches in division 7. Their final match was away to Beckenham 4 which they lost 1-3. Lionel Hoskins/Sarah Pout won the rubber for the team. The team only won one match this winter but they should hold onto their place in division 7 because they have a better winning rubber percentage than the bottom team. There was excellent news for the club from the ladies veterans 2 team as they clinched their section of division 4 with another 4-0 win. The team of Sarah Pout/Christine Hanson and Debbie Holden/Vanessa Webb have won all their matches 4-0 and look forward to playing in division 3 next winter. They wil be playing the division final on 6th April against Tunbridge Wells 3
