Emily nets Hat-trick in Junior Finals

21st Sep. 12

Herne Bay Tennis Club’s Junior Finals day took place on Sunday 9th September and proved to be a great morning of tennis. Following match plays during the month of August, over 40 junior’s entered the competition ranging from Mini Red players to the U18 section.

The Mini-Red tournament kicked off with new club member, Sam Stevenson taking the title. Joint second place were keen players, Theo Lewis and Will Hosking together with Theo’s brother, Seth, taking 3rd place.
This year’s Mini-Orange event was the largest by far with lots of strong competition especially in the semi-final stages between Robbie Benka/Elliot Eve and Milly Mileham/Ella Woodin. It was newly joined Robbie who defeated Ella Woodin in a close three match tie-break finale. The standard of players in the Mini-Green event were extremely high seeing some great tennis in the group stages and semi-finals. Rebecca Curland, last year’s Mini-Orange winner and most improved girl, held her nerve to defeat Henry Mileham in a closely contested match full of long rallies to take the Mini-Green title for the first time.
The hard ball event commenced with the boys and girls Open Singles. Experienced up and coming junior player, Arie Fielder-Geurts took the title against Aston Gillette with Emily Bundock claiming the Girls Singles title from Mollie Eyles for the first time. Emily then paired up with Mollie to retain the Girls Doubles Trophy against Lauren Walker and Ameerah Ibrahim. The Boys Doubles saw new club members, Oscar Girling and Charlie Eastman pairing together to take on singles runner-up, Aston and Harry Carter. Oscar and Charlie proved too consistant and took the trophy for the first time. The last final of the day was the Mixed Open seeing Emily and Aston teaming up against Mollie and Arie. This was a good game but the team spirit of Emily and Aston managed to secure her hat-trick of the day and a win for Aston.
The trophies for the most improved girl and boy of 2012 are awarded to Emily Bundock and Arie Fielder-Geurts. Thank you to all the players and parents for their ongoing support and for all of the coaches who helped on the day.
